Day -10

Publish date: Apr 3, 2019

This is my AT blog. I’ll use it to keep y’all updated. Andrew Nguyen will do the actual uploading. Maybe he’ll even make some graphs, even though they won’t be nearly as good as mine. Many of you have asked me how he feels about this. Let’s ask him:

“I’m happy that she’s pursuing her dream, but I’ll miss her in DC.”

Here are some other FAQs:

Q: Why are you doing this?

Unclear. I’ve been dreaming of this thing for nearly 10 years, since I first backpacked a section with my high school group “Expedition Academy.” I promise this is not a Wild-esque whim.

Q: How long does this take?

The trail is about 2,200 miles long, and takes 5.4 months to thruhike on average. I just need to finish before October 15, when the final climb closes for the season. The record, though, is 41 days!

Q: How will you eat? Charge your phone? Shower?

A town is never more than a few days away, so I’ll just stop in!

Q: Are you going alone?

Besides the other 15 Northbound hikers registered to start on April 13, I’m going with my college friend Rob! It’s good, he has a regular cook kit and I have a jetboil (aka he can stir fry and I can make tea real fast).

Q: Have you been preparing physically?

Nope. Just carbo-loading.

Q: What will you do when you get back?

I’m hoping to get a job related to data science in DC. Anyone hiring?

Q: You know, you can quit if you want

That’s not really a question.
