Day 23: The Logistics of Food, Part 2

Publish date: May 8, 2019

I cook with a Jetboil, which is really only good for boiling, but others have camp stoves and pots. We can eat a hot meal when we’re near a water source and not in a hurry. In general, hiker breakfast is either hot or cold, hiker lunch is cold, and hiker dinner is hot.

Food weighs a lot. I tend to carry 2-5 days worth of food at a time, depending on where I plan to stop next. A 5-day resupply might weigh around 10lbs, which is half of my base weight. In twenty-three days I have resupplied six times.
